ABOUT US

Background
In 2004, a Federal Executive Council memo observed the increasing proliferation of disparate IT networks and assets across Federal Government MDAs and sought to streamline these efforts by constituting a committee for the Harmonization of Government IT infrastructure initiatives.

Following the recommendation of the Federal Executive Council Committee on the Harmonisation of Government IT infrastructure assets, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria directed that a company be established to consolidate and integrate all the disparate existing government-owned networks into a single holistic government-wide network.

Based on the presidential directive, Galaxy Backbone was incorporated in 2006 as a public limited liability company (RC 656992). In order to fully achieve its mission and execute its mandate, the company shall operate as a commercial entity, even though it is 100% wholly owned by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
