Galaxy Backbone Commences Immediate Deployment of Anambra State Schools Connectivity Programme Priority Sites.
In line with its core value of being customer centric, Galaxy Backbone PLC, the leading public sector ICT Infrastructure Company based in Abuja, has within 5 working days of signing a contract agreement with the Anambra State Government mobilized all the equipment and requisite manpower to Awka, the state capital, in readiness to commence the deployment of internet connectivity and access to 110 secondary schools in the state.
During the official handover and public presentation of Anambra State School Connectivity Programme to the people of the state by Governor Peter Obi, Yusuf Kazaure, Galaxy Backbone Corporate Executive in charge of States, Education & Developmental Services stated that the company was proud to be associated with Anambra State Government under Peter Obi in its desire and passion to empower future generations of Anambrians with the capacity to actualize their full potentials as global citizens in a globalized world, “hence our decision to mobilized all the hardware and software that is human resources for the immediate deployment to priority sites. For the avoidance of doubt, the contract was signed last Friday and equipment for the 110 secondary schools arrived on Saturday and is being handed over to the State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Kay Onyechi at the ceremony, then our technical are on standby to connect the first ten priority sites with 5 working days as soon as our site readiness criteria are met”.
Delivering a PowerPoint presentation, Kazaure told the audience, made up of the members of the State Executive Council, traditional rulers, officials of the education ministry and its parastatals, the principals and students of the selected secondary schools, Anambra State Government was the first State Government in Nigeria to contract over hundred educational sites. "This is the beginning of a new era for students and teachers in Anambra State. They will enjoy internet services at a faster speed on a secured network. This will definitely create opportunity for them which they will explore for the benefit of this state. A very important benefit of the connectivity is the ability to share information in a cost-effective manner and this will create opportunities for the educational institutions to share multimedia information, create and disseminate contents, and collaborate in the dissemination of knowledge"
Furthermore, he disclosed that each of the 110 secondary school sites will get 1 Vsat dish, 2 wireless modems, 1 switch, 1 rack and battery back up that can keep the sites up for 24 hours during power outage once the battery has been charged up to 4 hours. He added that video conferencing capabilities of the network would help students in the state to connect, meet and learn faster.
Speaking at the event, the Governor said that his passion would remain doing what was the best for the people of the State, election or no election. He disagreed with those saying that what he is doing is belated by arguing that he would not stop government because of election. He said that it was not a matter of what he was doing now, but the fact that his Government has been active at all times.
