Usman studied Business Administration at first and second degree levels at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Northern Nigeria.
He started the early stages of his professional career in banking and finance but was introduced to Human Resources Management in 1996. He joined Nigeria Liquefied Natural gas Limited in April 1998, as a personnel officer where he went through several rigorous and intensive Human resources training both locally and abroad. He was exposed management of Personnel data using Human resources management systems (HRMS) some of the roles included payroll and benefits administration, leave and general welfare.
Usman joined MTN Nigeria communications limited in 2002, about five months after start-up as a regional Human Resources Advisor. Key activity then was the need for rapid recruitment to meet with the organizations objective of rolling out 2 million lines in the first year of operation. Also involved in localizing policies and procedures as well as implementing MTN group’s HR operational action plans aligned to the overall MTN Group HR Strategy.
In September 2006, Accenture employed Usman as a senior consultant and did preliminary work for the Chevron Nigeria outplacement strategy as well as developing power maps for Shell Nigeria. A major project he undertook was the Shell International Exploration and Production (SIEP) records management project which involved developing file plans as a new and creative method of keeping Shell Global records. In the period, Usman worked as a staff of Accenture Netherlands and started the assignment in Rijswick, Netherlands before proceeding to Port Harcourt and Warri in Nigeria.
Prior to joining Galaxy Backbone Plc, Usman was the Head Human Capital Management for UBA Plc, North reporting to the Deputy Managing Director with responsibilities for HR strategy and transformation.
He is an associate member of the Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria and Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, CIPD UK, as well as Level A & B certified practitioner; British Society of Psychologists (Occupational testing).
